Virginia Mae Hickey, a cherished mother, loving grandmother, and steadfast sister, left this world suddenly on July 9, 2025, in Munster, Indiana. Born on August 17, 1971, in Gary, Indiana, Virginia lived her life with kindness and a welcoming spirit, touching the hearts of everyone around her.
Her children were her world, and nothing brought her more joy than nurturing them with unconditional love. Virginia took immense pride in raising her grandson, Giovani Carranza, ensuring that he always felt supported and cherished. Her nurturing nature extended beyond her own family; she was a hard worker, determined to make life easier for those she loved. Virginia approached every task with tireless dedication, always doing everything from her heart.
Virginia had a remarkable personality, creating an atmosphere of warmth wherever she went. Her home was a sanctuary filled with love, laughter, and the company of her beloved dogs. She found joy in the simple things, including watching her favorite shows and sharing moments with family and friends.
She is survived by her devoted children, Christina Carranza and Michael Ramos, and Michael's girlfriend, Rachel. Virginia was also a proud sister to Genevieve Hickey(Carlos Salazar), and Douglas Hickey. Her legacy continues through her grandson, Giovani Carranza, and her nephews or as she called them (Her Boys) Hector and Anthony Salinas, Michael and David Castillo. Her niece, Erlinda Kincaid, Great nieces and nephews Armani, Aubrey, Anthony Jr., Alex, Elias and Analina Salinas. Her brother and sister, Tino and Juana also hold her memory close to their hearts.
Virginia reunites in eternal rest with her beloved family members who have gone before her: her grandfather, Joseph Garcia; her uncle, Joseph Garcia; her mother, Erlinda Garcia; her grandmother, Velia Garcia; her aunt, Delores Garcia (Tia Dee-Dee); and her cousins, Anna Castellanos, Nicholas Mendez, and Simon Mendez, Her loving family that took her in to be a part of their family her Aunt Corrine Miranda (Tia Corrina/Grandma Corrine), uncle Carlos Miranda and beloved cousin Carmen Miranda.
A visitation to honor Virginia Mae Hickey will take place on July 19, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Acevez Funeral Home in Hammond, Indiana, where family and friends are invited to share their memories and pay their respects.
Virginia’s spirit will forever live in the hearts of those she touched, reminding us of the importance of love, kindness, and family.
