Susan M. Spudville, a beloved mother, grandmother, and devoted wife, departed this life on March 14, 2026, leaving behind a legacy marked by love, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to family and faith. Born on December 5, 1950, Susan’s life was a testament to the values she held most dear: kindness, perseverance, and devotion.

Throughout her distinguished career, Susan lent her talents and warm spirit to a variety of workplaces, including NIPSCO in Merrillville, Indiana, where she served in customer service; Safety Clean in Dolton; and Amoco in downtown Chicago. Her professional journey was built upon diligence and a sincere desire to help others, traits that endeared her to colleagues and clients alike. Academically, she was well-prepared, holding an Associate’s Degree in Secretarial Studies from South Suburban College, proficient in shorthand, cursive handwriting, and the art of typing on the typewriter—skills reflective of her generation's dedication to mastering communication crafts.

Susan's personality was marked by an openness and warmth that embraced all who knew her. A loving and caring wife, mother, and grandmother, she instilled in her children the importance of integrity, kindness, and education. Ever encouraging, she championed their pursuits in academics and life, proudly attending their band concerts, baseball games, and other milestones with fervent support. Her social nature and congenial spirit created a welcoming atmosphere wherever she went; she liked everybody and got along with everybody, fostering friendships that lasted a lifetime.

Faith was central to Susan’s life. As a devout Catholic, she maintained a daily practice of prayer and cherished the pastoral visits from Father Eduardo, who brought her Holy Communion during her illness. Her spirituality provided strength and comfort through all seasons of her life.

In quieter moments, Susan found joy watching episodes of Gunsmoke, tending to her garden, experimenting with cooking, and most importantly, spending treasured time with her family. Among her proudest accomplishments was raising her children and the precious moments shared with her granddaughter, Emily—a source of immense pride and joy.

Susan is lovingly remembered by her husband, Charles Spudville, Sr.; her daughter, Cheryl Suwardi; her son-in-law, Alfred Suwardi; her son, Charles Spudville, Jr. (Amber Gibbs); her stepson, John Spudville; her daughter-in-law, Melissa Spudville; and her sister, Mary Ann Carlson. These cherished individuals carry forward her legacy of compassion and love. Susan is reunited in heaven with her father, Raymond Persic; her mother, Helene Persic; her brother, Ray Persic; her sister-in-law, Sherri Persic; and her sister, Nancy Hausler.

The profound love between Susan and her husband, Charlie, was boundless throughout their years together, filled with joy and mutual admiration. Indeed, her husband fondly recalls how he “loved everything about Mom and had a lot of fun over all of these years.” Their enduring love continues in the hearts of those who knew them.

To honor her memory, a visitation will be held on March 23, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Acevez Funeral Home, located at 4404 Cameron Avenue in Hammond, Indiana. Following this, a viewing is scheduled for March 24, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 9:45 AM at the same location. A mass celebrating Susan’s life will be offered at 10:00 AM at St. Casimir Church, 4340 Johnson Avenue, Hammond, Indiana. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery at 801 Michigan City Road in Calumet City, Illinois, at 11:30 AM.

Susan M. Spudville’s departure leaves a void that only a life so richly lived can create. Her enduring influence, heartfelt kindness, and steadfast devotion to faith and family remain an eternal flame, comforting all who were fortunate to know her. She is deeply missed but forever cherished.
