Sam "Sammy" Torres

In Loving Memory of Sam "Sammy" Torres April 5, 1957 – August 11, 2026

Sam Torres passed away on August 11, 2026, at the age of 69 with his brother Marcus by his side. Marcus faithfully stood beside Sam throughout his illness, offering his love, support, and companionship until the very end. 

Sam leaves behind his five children, Stephanie Montelongo, Samantha Torres, Randy Torres, Frances Torres, and Victoria Torres; 17 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; and the mother of his children, Dolores (Dee-Dee)

He is also survived by his brothers, Michael Torres, Marcus Torres, and Santos Torres; his sisters, Sylvia (Juventino) Martinez and Marsha (Hans) Torres; and his Godchild, Gabriel Martinez, along with many extended family members and friends who loved him.

Sam was born,raised and resided in East Chicago. He graduated from EC Washington High School Class of 1975. He was a proud retiree of Inland Steel/Mittal Steel and a longtime member of Club Ki-Yowga.

Anyone who knew Sam knew where his loyalties stood when it came to Chicago sports—he was a die-hard White Sox and Bears fan. He enjoyed traveling, building things with his hands, fishing, golfing, and simply enjoying the things and people he loved.

Sam is preceded in death by his parents, Santos “Saint” and Lupe Torres; his sister, Lupe Gibson; his brother, Jaime Torres; and his beloved son, Rudy Joe Torres.

Sam’s life will be remembered through the family and friends he leaves behind, the memories shared with those who knew him, and the many stories that will continue to be told for generations to come.

You fought your fight like a Torres. Now you can rest.

A Memorial Service will be held at Acevez Funeral Home
