Romelia "Romie" Perez

Romelia “Romie” Perez, age 83, of Merrillville, Indiana passed away Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She is survived by her children Delia Hernandez of Merrillville, Indiana, Daniel (Martha) Perez of Portage, Indiana and David (Andrea) Perez of Mesa, Arizona honorable former daughter in law Tonya Ortiz.  Brothers Manuel (Sonia) Sanchez of Hammond, Indiana and Ascencion (Martha) Sanchez Jr of San Antonio, Texas. Sister Emma Sanchez of San Antonio, Texas. 

She leaves behind Lisa Hernandez, Steven (Katie) Hernandez, Victoria (Richard) Barajas, DeAnna (Zack) Wellsand, Arieana Perez and honorable granddaughter Kristen Ortiz. Romie adored all of her grandchildren.

Preceded in death by husband Hipolito Perez in 1993.

Her mother Lucia V. Sanchez and father Ascencion Sanchez Sr. Her bother Enrique Sanchez and sisters Ofelia Garza, Evangelina Narvaez, and Juanita Sanchez. Son in law Ronald S. Hernandez and in laws; Mario Garza, Hermilo Narvaez, Eva Sanchez, and Natalia Sanchez.

Romelia, more fondly remembered as “Romie,” enjoyed making meals and baking for her family and friends.

She was a wonderful person to be around. Someone who made you smile and always had a kind word to say to brighten your day. She will be missed by all who knew her.

A visitation will be held Friday October 18, 2019 from 3pm to 8pm at Memory Lane Funeral Chapel 6305 West Lincoln Highway Crown Point, Indiana. Arrangements made by Acevez Funeral Home.

Donations may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation or VNANWI (Visiting Nurse Association of Northwest Indiana) in memory of Romie.
