Refugio Martinez

Refugio Martinez, a cherished member of the community, passed away peacefully at home on May 14, 2025, at the age of 96. Born on November 1, 1928, in Villa de Arriaga, San Luis Potosí, Mexico, Refugio lived a life filled with love, dedication, and a deep sense of family.

He was the beloved husband of the late Czeslawa Martinez, who preceded him in death on February 1, 2025. Their bond was a testament to enduring love and devotion that will forever be remembered by their family and friends.

Refugio is survived by his stepdaughter, Barbara Topete, and grandchildren Olivia, Ralph (Allison), Alexander (Lidiya), Emilia, and Maximilian (Breanna). He was also blessed with the presence of eight great-grandchildren. His legacy continues through his brothers Estanislao (Berta) and Manuel, as well as his sister Maria all residing in Mexico. Refugio also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in his heart.

The family invites friends and loved ones to celebrate Refugio's life. A visitation will be held on May 19, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Acevez Funeral Home in Hammond, Indiana. A Mass will take place on May 20, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. Casimir Church, followed by his burial at Holy Cross Cemetery in Calumet City, Illinois, at 11:45 AM.
