Raul Torres

Listen to Obituary

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Raul A. Torres who left this world on October 31, 2025 in Chicago, IL. He passed surrounded by his beloved family. Born in Chicago to Margaret Gomez and Roy Torres on December 31, 1959, Raul was a tremendous source of love, compassion, and humor for his family and friends.

Raul grew up on the South Side of Chicago as part of a large family and extended family. Growing up with his siblings and cousins he became known as their protector and was someone they knew they could turn to in times of need. Raul worked as a marble layer in the City of Chicago for many years and his handiwork can be seen in many of its buildings. He also worked as a Teachers Assistant for Chicago Public Schools where he was a positive force for students and coworkers alike.

Raul fell ill and underwent a successful heart transplant surgery Thanksgiving day November 2004. The medical team at Loyola Medical Center told his family to pray for about 10 years, and any more time with him would be a blessing. Thanks to the tireless work of his medical care team, unending support from his family, and Raul’s indomitable will to keep fighting, his family was blessed with double the expected time with him.

Raul’s passion was on display whenever he watched Chicago sports. He watched every major sports team and got to witness all of them win a championship. He also loved watching movies (especially Sci Fi), going camping, and partying with his family.

He used his ingenuity to fix up anything his family needed. From fixing cars and bikes to plumbing and tiling. Raul had a knack for handiwork and taught his two sons everything he knew.

Raul’s memory is carried onward by his beloved wife Rosemary Torres and his cherished children: Jessica Torres, Brandon (Michelle) Torres, and Jordon Torres. His mother Margaret Gomez and his father Roy (Regina) Torres, stepfather Ralph Cortes and all his siblings: Mark Torres, Ralph Cortes, Joel (Margaret) Cortes, Dyan (Alvin) Torres, Paul (Patti) Torres, Scott Torres, the cousins he grew up with and his many nephews and nieces. Preceded into the after life by his grandparents Jose (Micaela) Torres, Fortino (Margaret) Gomez. Uncles and Aunts Phillip (Mary) Gomez, Frank Gomez, Grace (Gabino) Sanchez, Carmen (Obed) Earnest step daughter Ashley Moreno and his brother Rick Torres.

A visitation to honor Raul’s life will be held at Acevez Funeral Home in Hammond, Indiana, on Friday November 7, 2025 from 4PM to 8PM central time. Mass will be held on Saturday November 8, 2025 at 10am DIRECTLY at St. Stanisluas Catholic Church, 808 W 150th st East Chicago, IN 46312 with The Very Rev. Jeffery D. Burton V.F. officiating, and a Final Viewing at 9:30am prior to Mass. A Private Cremation will follow.

As we say farewell to a remarkable man who filled our lives with love, laughter, and warmth, we remember Raul not only for the battles he overcame but for the memories full of love and happiness that he helped create. He will remain forever in our hearts.
