He was a true Harley-riding soul who loved the open road and took pride in the rumble of motorcycles.

Raul Calamaco Torres known lovingly as "Roy" passed away on October 8, 2026, at the age of 86. Born in Chicago, IL on June 6, 1940, he spent his early childhood in San Antonio, Texas before returning to Chicago, where he built his life, met his true love, Regina Agnes Torres and raised his family,

Roy was a hands‑on mechanic whose driveway often doubled as his workshop or car lot full of pending repairs. With a wrench in one hand and an oil can in the other, he found joy in fixing his own cars. He was a true Harley‑riding soul who loved the open road and took pride in the rumble of motorcycles. When not riding, he loved settling in to watch classic westerns and eating his favorite Mexican dish. He carried a generous heart. For 30 years, he worked as a train mechanic with Norfolk Southern Railroad, retiring with pride and leaving behind a legacy defined by hard work and dedication.

For more than 35 years, Roy faced severe kidney disease and diabetes with remarkable strength and determination. Even through those long health battles, he stayed energized by the things he loved most: cars, motorcycles, western movies, and food from all cultures. His humor, resilience, and spirited presence will be deeply missed.

Roy’s memory lives on through those who loved him. He is survived by his sons:

      • Paul Torres, eldest son of Roy and Regina
      • Scott Torres, youngest son of Roy and Regina
      • Mark Torres, son of Roy and Margaret Gomez

                • He is also survived by his daughters-in-law: Patricia Torres, Rosemary Torres, and Alita Brown.

He leaves behind a cherished group of grandchildren: Jessica Torres, Brandon Torres, Jordon Torres, Noel Torres, Nadia Torres, Nicholas Torres, Stephen Torres, Sebastian Torres, and Jonathan Torres. He is also survived by his sister, Alicia Torres, and many nieces and nephews, including Micaela Norris, Joe Torres, and Diana Torres, along with numerous sisters and brothers-in-law from his Regina's family. Each of them carries forward memories of Roy’s humor, his interests, and the presence he held in their lives.

“

Those who knew Roy will remember a man who endured much, loved deeply, and held tight to the simple joys that made life brighter.

Roy was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Regina Agnes Torres, with whom he shared 33 years of marriage, the loving mother of Paul and Scott, passed in 1999. He was also preceded in death by his sons Raul Torres, who passed in 2025, and Rick Torres, who passed in 2022. He was further preceded in death by his parents, Desideria Calamaco Torres and Jose Torres; his brothers Robert, Rudy, and Alfonso Torres; his sister Amelia Torres; and his nephew Bob Torres.

Those who knew Roy will remember a man who endured much, loved deeply, and held tight to the simple joys that made life brighter. His love of cars, motorcycles, and western films reflected a lively spirit that stayed with him throughout the years. He will be remembered with love and held close in the hearts of his family and friends.

We are extremely grateful to the staff at Journey Care Hospice in Barrington, IL for bringing him comfort and peace in his final moments.
