Miguel passed away Friday, May 23, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.

Miguel A. Melendez, 42, of Hammond, Indiana, passed away on Friday, May 23, 2025. He was born on June 20, 1982, on Father’s Day in Munster, Indiana to Raquel Velez and Late Felix M. Melendez. Miguel grew up in East Chicago, IN and played baseball with the East Chicago Little League. As he grew older, he loved to play basketball, take walks with his dog and cook. He would mow the lawn faithfully once every week and was a hard worker. Miguel is survived by his parents Raquel and Jose Velez, sisters Sonia (Greg) Sowula, Mari (Augie) S., Dorcas Iris Janicki and Lisette (Nick) Hurley, stepsisters Luz Velez, Laura Velez and Elizabeth Velez, stepbrother Jose Velez Jr. and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Romualdo and Patricia Lopez, Luis and Clemencia Melendez,Step Brother Julio Velez Uncle Josue Lopez and Uncle Gerson Lopez.

Visitation will be held Monday, June 2, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM and a Funeral Service 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM with Rev. Johnny Bonilla officiating at Acevez Funeral Home, 4404 Cameron Ave., Hammond, IN 46327. 

 Miguel will always be remembered for being a peaceful and caring person.
