Mark A. Kratochvil

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mark Alan Kratochvil, who departed from this world in his sleep on July 28, 2026.

Born on August 13, 1959, in Gary, Indiana, Mark was the cherished son of the late Anthony Kratochvil and Judith Stinson-Adamkiewicz. He is also preceded in death by his beloved grandmother, Francis Kratochvil. Mark leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, survived by his two daughters, Amber Kratochvil and Brittini Kratochvil, who brought immense joy to his life. He is also survived by his brother, Jeff Kratochvil of North Carolina, his nephew's Jeremy and Justin Kratochvil of Colorado,  and his long-time partner Michalene Bixeman of Cedar Lake. Mark was previously married to Jolene Kratochvil, with whom he shared twenty memorable years.

A graduate of Thornton Fractional High School, Mark embarked on a career that began in the blast furnaces of Inland Steel. He also started his own tree cutting business, A&B Tree Services, in the 1990's on the side. His adventurous spirit soon led him to the open roads as a tanker semi-truck driver, a role that allowed him to see the vast beauty of the United States. Mark was a man who embraced life’s experiences with open arms and an infectious enthusiasm. 

Mark's love for music was unparalleled, and anyone who met him would quickly learn of his admiration for Pink Floyd, proudly showcased by the tattoo on his shoulder. He had a keen ear for rock classics, with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath among his favorites. Beyond music, Mark cherished the simple pleasures in life, from fishing trips with his father, Tony, to sharing meals at new restaurants with his daughters. He was known for his sweet tooth, his fondness for Pepsi, and his once-favorite indulgence, Jack Daniels, which he gracefully set aside in his later years. 

Mark's personality was as vibrant as the music he loved. Known for his quick wit and warm heart, he never met a stranger, often engaging in conversation with anyone he encountered. At Spring Mill Health Campus, where he spent his last years, Mark was celebrated as the life of the party, always ready for an adventure, a new experience, or a lively concert. 

His daughters, Amber and Brittini, extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate team at Spring Mill Health Campus for the exceptional care and kindness shown to Mark.

In honoring his life, they recall the words of Pink Floyd that resonate so deeply with his spirit: "For long you live and high you fly, smiles you'll give and tears you'll cry, All you touch and all you see is all your life will ever be." 

A private funeral will be held to celebrate Mark's incredible life.  Mark will be remembered for his love, laughter, and the indelible mark he left on the hearts of those who knew him. May he rest in peace, forever embraced by the melodies he cherished.
