Ludwik Brzek

Ludwik Brzek, age 99 of East Chicago, IN. passed away peacefully, Thursday, July 17th at The Hospice of the Calumet , Munster, IN.. Preceded in death by his wife Mary in 2019. He is survived by his daughters Sophia (Gregory) Bembenista of Munster, Ann Brzek of Carpentersville, IL. Son Ted (Denise) Brzek of Highland, IN. Grandchildren Steven (Lindsey) Bembenista of Fon Du Lac, WI., Julie (Dale) Norman of Lowell, IN., Kelly Wojnarowski of Carpentersville, IL., Brittany Brzek of Naperville, IL. Great grandchildren include George and Janie Bembenista, Jacob, Lily and Hannah Norman.

Ludwik was born in Poland in 1926. He immigrated to America on Christmas Eve in 1962 with his wife and three children. In 1963 they settled in East Chicago, IN. where he started working at Blaw-Knox Foundry. He was very proud to be making tank turrets and hulls for The American Military.

He believed in working hard to support his family. In his later years, attending daily Mass at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church was very important to him. He enjoyed fixing things, especially chairs. He would repair them and give them to his friends and family. He and his wife Mary enjoyed going to resale shops looking for quality items that they would also give away to family.

Ludwik was a simple man who loved simple pleasures. May he rest in peace. He will be missed.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, July 31st at 10am at St. Casimir Catholic Church, Hammond, IN. With Rev. Eduardo Malagon officiating.  

A visitation will be held from 8am until time of Mass at Acevez Funeral Home, 4404 Cameron Ave. Hammond, IN. across the street from St. Casimir Church.

 A burial will follow Mass at St John St. Joseph Cemetery, Hammond, IN.
