Lorenzo Becerra, age 89 of East Chicago Indiana passed away peacefully on Sunday October 8, 2023 surrounded by family.

Born in León Guanajuato Mexico, on September 11, 1934 to the late Sofia Becerra. Lorenzo is survived by his wife Josefina; four children, Juan (Ramona) Becerra, Norma (David) Witherspoon, San Lorenzo (Rose Ann) Becerra and Israel Becerra.

He leaves behind 12 grandchildren & 2 great grandchildren. Juan P.  Becerra Jr, Jazmyn M. Becerra, Joshua M. Becerra, Jacklyn R.  Becerra, Andrés L. Santiago, Steffan L. Santiago, Sophie A. Witherspoon, Lorenzo M. Becerra, Alyssa M. Rivera, Giovanni Ruelas, Israel Becerra Jr, Alina A. Becerra, Mila R. Hernandez, Ophelia I. Becerra.

Lorenzo also leaves behind seven children from his previous marriage; Lorenzo Becerra Jr, Michael Becerra, Teresa Becerra, Rita Romero, Patricia Becerra, Antonio Becerra, Joseph Becerra.

Many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members; Eloisa (Carlos) Alvarado and family.

Lorenzo came to the United States at the young age of 10 years old. He moved to Cleveland OH with family for a short time. He then made his way to East Chicago IN, where he lived for nearly 70 years. Lorenzo started a career with Inland Steel at age 16. Lorenzo worked for 35 years at Inland Steel. He was a proud member of Local 1010. Lorenzo retired from Inland Steel in 1986.

Shortly after retiring Lorenzo started a second career with the East Chicago Public Library in the Maintenance department. After 10 years of dedication and hard work he then retired as Head of Maintenance.

Throughout Lorenzo’s life he made many friends, you may have seen him at one of his baseball leagues, bowling leagues or possibly having a drink at a local East Chicago bar. Lorenzo was a friendly social man with many friends and lived a humble life with his family. One of his biggest accomplishments was being able to provide a loving home for his family.

Lorenzo will be missed dearly. His legacy will always be remembered and celebrated.

Visitation will be held on Saturday October 14, 2023
