Juana "Guany" Flores

Juana “Guany” Flores was born in Juana Diaz, Puerto Rico. She is preceded in death by her father Santiago Rivera, her mother Isabel Leon, her brother Jon Rivera, and her husband Joaquin Flores. She is survived by her children Noel (Leticia) Flores, Noemi (Elyse) Flores, grandchildren Isaac, Mia, and Marissa, her brothers Luis and Javier, her sisters Gloria, Daisy, and Helen, along with many nieces and nephews.

Guany was a loving devoted wife and a great mother who was a dedicated factory worker in Puerto Rico in her younger days and then worked for the School City of East Chicago in Indiana when her kids were older. She was devoted to her family, her church, and to her community.

 She was one of the cocineras for her church (Harbor church) and was known for making her famous big pots of rice for every celebration. She enjoyed helping out during VBS and volunteered for many different events for the community. 

One thing special about Guany is that no matter where she was, she was a blessing to everyone around her, whether she knew them or not. She would see someone in need and she would just give without hesitation. 

She enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends. She spent her days writing wherever there was a space and wherever there was a pen…she’d write her name, her kids’ names, but best of all she would write to God and at night she would be doing crosswords. 

Guany lived a beautiful life. She was empathetic, compassionate, and an admirable person. She was so loved and will forever be missed.
