Jose V. Rivas

Jose V. Rivas, born on March 6, 1951, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2026, at St. Catherine Hospital. He leaves behind a legacy marked by kindness, dedication to family, and a lifetime of hardworking devotion that touched all who knew him.

A skilled auto mechanic by profession, Jose found joy and satisfaction in working on cars and trucks in his early career. His hands brought engines to life and kept vehicles running smoothly, reflecting his meticulous nature and mechanical aptitude. Later, he contributed his talents to Marport Smelting in East Chicago, where he continued to apply his diligent work ethic and steadfast commitment.

Jose’s personality was ever kind and welcoming; he was a devoted family man whose greatest joy came from spending time with his loved ones, especially his cherished grandchildren. His warmth and generosity left an indelible mark on all who experienced his friendship and hospitality. Among his many interests, he found enjoyment watching wrestling on television, a pastime that offered him relaxation and entertainment.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Monalisa Rivas; his children, Jose Rivas, Juanita Rivas, and Victor Ramos; and his grandchildren, Justin Harrington, Brandon Harrington, Guillermo Rivas, and Valentin Rivas. Together, they carry forward his memory and the love he so freely gave. Jose was preceded in death by his parents, Julio Rivas and Maria Rivas.

Services honoring Jose V. Rivas will begin with a visitation on April 24, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at Acevez Funeral Home Hammond, located at 4404 Cameron Ave, Hammond, IN 46327. A Mass will follow at St. Casimir Church, 4340 Johnson Avenue, Hammond, IN 46327, starting at 11:00 a.m. The burial will take place at Calumet Park Cemetery, 2305 W. 173rd Avenue, Merrillville, IN, at 12:45 p.m.
