Jose D. Casillas

Jose D. Casillas, affectionately known as Danny, passed away on January 1, 2026, in Hammond, Indiana. Born on August 19, 1977, in East Chicago, he embraced life with an infectious spirit that touched the hearts of those around him.

Danny was a man of kindness and warmth, known for his welcoming nature and a remarkable sense of humor that could lift the spirits of anyone in his presence. He cherished moments spent with family and friends, always encouraging others to enjoy life to the fullest. With a passion for sports, he was a devoted fan of the Chicago Bears, Chicago Bulls, and Chicago Cubs, often immersing himself in games and enjoying the camaraderie that comes with being a supporter of these teams. His love for animals was equally profound, and he also shared a special bond with his beloved dog, Rocky, who will miss him dearly.

He leaves behind a loving family that includes his wife, Zugede Serrano de Casillas; his brother, Ramon L. Casillas Jr.; and his sisters, Lisa Caldwell and Dayanara Costello. Danny is also survived by his sister-in-law, Genesis Casillas, brother-in-law, Raymond Costello, and his many nieces and nephews: Evalisa, Sarah, Ashley, Ariel, Elijah, Gabriel, Brianna, Ashlee, Ivette, and Ramon Yandel.

Danny was preceded in death by his parents, Ramon Luis Casillas Sr. and Carmen "Ita" Casillas, who instilled in him the values of love and togetherness that he shared throughout his life.

A memorial gathering to honor Danny's life will be held on January 17, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Acevez Funeral Home in Hammond, Indiana. Those who knew him are invited to commemorate a life well-lived and to celebrate the joyful memories he created.
