Freddy J. Dancer

Freddy J. Dancer, born on May 27, 1960, in East Chicago, Indiana, left us on June 18, 2025, after a courageous and prolonged battle with illness. He was adored for his warmth, kindness, and unwavering dedication to his family. A true family man, Freddy dedicated his life to being a loving husband, father, brother, and uncle, always placing his loved ones at the forefront of his priorities.

For many years, Freddy built a successful career in construction, including a significant tenure with Schilling Lumber and in the Mill on the deep tunnel projects. His strong work ethic and commitment to his profession instilled values in his children that will be passed down through generations. He graduated from George Rogers Clark High School, which laid the groundwork for the industrious life he would embrace.

Freddy was a man of many passions especially all of his animals and his love for motorcycles, particularly Harley Davidsons, was matched only by his enthusiasm for classic cars and old television shows, such as "The Andy Griffith Show." He derived great joy from hunting and spending time outdoors, where he felt most alive. His hobbies included collecting eagles and wolves, as well as savoring home-cooked meals that brought his family together. Freddy’s vibrant personality encompassed a unique blend of strength, tenderness, and a curious spirit that drew people to him.

Freddy is survived by his wife of 33 years, Peggy Dancer, who was not only his partner but also his greatest confidant. His children: Mark Dancer, Ashley (married to Dave) Lund, and David Whiting Dancer, who each carry forward the legacy of love and strength he instilled in them. He is also survived by his brothers Charles and his twin Eddie (married to Ellen) Dancer, and brother in law to Jim Blackwell, Dawn and Don Janes, Samara Laas and Jason Montpetit along with several cherished nieces, nephews, cousins and family in Arkansas and California who will remember him fondly. He was a beloved Uncle and Great Uncle And best friends to all. He was also dedicated to being a good son.

He joins the ranks of those we mourn, having been preceded in death by his loving parents, Saint Elmo and Geraldine Dancer, as well as his siblings Donna Blackwell and Judy and Mike Burba. Mother and Father in Law Rosetta and Joseph Laas. Brothers in law Joey and Stevie Laas. Their memories remain alive in those who continue to grieve his passing.

A visitation will take place at Acevez Funeral Home in Hammond on June 25, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by burial at Concordia Cemetery at 1:30 PM.

Freddy J. Dancer will be sadly missed by all who knew him, but his spirit will forever shine brightly in the hearts of his family and friends. His legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering support will continue to inspire all those who had the blessing of knowing him.
