Dorothy I. Walters

Dorothy I. Walters age 90 of East Chicago passed away peacefully Tuesday,January 30, 2018 at Dyer Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Dyer. She is survived by her grandson Christopher Walters and a dozen nieces and nephews and many more great nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband Edward “Mike” Walters and her son Gregory Walters. Siblings include her sisters Mary Mie T. Hines, Emily Mertz and one brother Martin Paluch. Visitation will be held Monday, February 5, 2018 from 3-8pm at the Acevez Funeral Home (Formerly Lesniak Funeral Home) 4918 Magoun Ave. East Chicago, IN. A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at 10 am with Msgr. John J. Siekierski officiating. There will be 1 hour of viewing at 9 am at the church prior to Mass. A private burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Calumet City. Dorothy was born in East Chicago March 26, 1927 and lived all her life in the same house she was born in on Wegg Ave. Her and her husband and son were active members in the American Legion Post 369. Dorothy worked at the Albert Givens Pants Factory and Bishop Noll Institute in the Cafeteria. She attended St. Stanislaus School and Church and will have her last service at the same church she was married in 70 years ago.
