Born on February 4, 1941, in Hammond, Dolly’s journey graced this world for eighty-five years, each day marked by enduring kindness, quiet strength, and the loving devotion she extended to all whose lives she touched.

Dolly’s story was one woven into the fabric of Hammond, Indiana—a city where she both began her life and laid the cornerstones of her passions and pursuits. After graduating from George Rogers Clark in Hammond, she embarked on a path that combined diligence with creativity. Her talents found a home in her early career as Secretary at the Hammond Times newspaper, where her meticulous attention to detail was matched only by the warmth of her smile. Dolly was also known for her artistic hands and generous spirit as a cake decorator and baker at Baskin Robbins—she crafted edible delights that brightened celebrations and united families around shared tables.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Dolly’s heart found joy in the simple yet profound pleasures of life: tending gardens that bloomed with color and care, preparing meals that nourished and comforted, and following her favorite teams—the Chicago Blackhawks and the Chicago Cubs—with steadfast enthusiasm. Her home was always alive with laughter, the scent of fresh-baked treats, and the boundless love she poured into each gathering.

Yet, among Dolly’s greatest and proudest accomplishments was the raising of her beloved family. Alongside her husband, George Zurek, Dolly devoted herself to nurturing four sons—Joseph, Glenn, Jim, and John—instilling in them the values of resilience, kindness, and unwavering familial support. Though marked by moments of loss—her daughter Robin Marie Harwood, as well as her brother Ronald Ciez, mother Marianne Ciez, and father Joseph Ciez having preceded her in passing—Dolly’s presence endures in the hearts of her surviving family. To honor Dolly, a public viewing will be held on June 29, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Acevez Funeral Home Hammond, located at 4404 Cameron Ave, Hammond, IN 46327. Following the viewing, burial services will take place at 12:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 8178 S Cline Ave, Crown Point, Schererville, IN 46307.
