Bernadine "Bernie" DesCamp

Bernadine "Bernie" DesCamp (nee Trentowski) age 86, passed away May 5, 2024 comfortably at Hartsfield Village surrounded by her family.  

She is survived by children Joseph (Milli) DesCamp, Julie (Danny) Howard, Jeffrey DesCamp, and Jerard (Denise) DesCamp; grandchildren David Howard, Jonathon (Lauren) Howard, Aaron (Chrissy) DesCamp, Dr. Ryan DesCamp, Sofia DesCamp, Brennan DesCamp and Brayden DesCamp; great grandchildren Annie and Jack Howard, Logan and Miller DesCamp; two sisters, her twin Geraldine (late Richard) Rathburn and Mary Jo (Robert) Haskell; many nieces and nephews whom she loved and cherished.

Bernadine was proceeded in death by her husband John (Joe) DesCamp, parents Chester and Sophie (Zizkovsky) Trentowski, special brother William Trentowski and infant sister Helen Trentowski.  

Bernadine was a lifelong resident of the Calumet Region.   After getting married and deciding to start a family, she left Western Union where she worked for many years.  She then re-entered the workforce in 1988 after the untimely passing of her husband Joe commuting to Chicago and working for Bank One.   Bernadine retired in 2000 to spend more time with her grandchildren and children. She cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.   She delighted in their laughter, milestones, and pictures.  If she didn’t get pictures daily, she was calling to see if everything was alright.  Also, in her spare time she loved to cook, sew, vacation with family and had many “adventures” with her friend Joan.  She will remain in our hearts forever.

The family would like to give heartfelt thanks to the Long-Term Care Staff at Hartsfield Village as well as NP Jolene and Dr K Patel.

Visitation will be Monday, May 13, 2024 from 3:00-7:00 pm at ACEVEZ FUNERAL HOME 4404 Cameron Ave. Hammond.  Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Casimir Catholic Church, 4340 Johnson Avenue, Hammond, IN. with Rev. Eduardo Malagon officiating.  

Burial will follow at St John-St Joseph Cemetery, Hammond IN.
