Alfonso "Fonso" Cantu

Alfonso passed away suddenly on Saturday at St. Catherine Hospital East Chicago surrounded by his loving family. 

He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years Norma Cantu and three sons and daughters-in-law David (Heather), Alfonso Jr (Claudia), Michael (Elise) Cantu and grandsons Michael and Noah Cantu.

Brothers and sisters include: Benito (Penny), Ronnie and Andrew (Elizabeth) Cantu sisters Mary Ellen (Ignacio) Martinez, Anna (John) Ramirez and Josephine (Calvin) Woodard and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. 

He is preceded in death by his parents Jesus and Dorothy Cantu, in-laws Andres and Lydia Sanchez and late sister-in-law Maria Cantu. Also, his two beloved dogs Sheba and Chica.

Alfonso's first Love was his wife and kids but his second love was his music. He was a gifted drummer and played with countless bands but his long-term band he loved was "Los Cordobas" this was his family band his father passed on to him and his family. He had been playing with his father Jesse since the age of 15 and went on to leaving a big foot print in the music industry in North West Indiana. He said that he would never stop playing his music. 

Fonso was a hard-working family man. He loved his sons, grandsons and siblings with all his heart. He looked forward to spending time with his grandsons and passing on his knowledge and talent for music to them. 

For his past times he loved fishing, taking his dogs on walks, working in his yard and shopping at the flea markets on the weekends. His favorite place to eat was Langel's. He was a long time Cubs and Bulls fan. 

Alfonso had many friends and family and he will be greatly missed by all.
