Abel Garza

Abel Garza, born on December 15, 1946, in Falfurrias, Texas, embarked on his eternal journey on August 26, 2025. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, leaving behind a legacy rich in love and fond memories.

Abel’s career spanned an impressive 42 years, culminating in retirement from the 80' hot mill, where he dedicated his hard work and unwavering commitment. His family remembers him not only for his professional achievements but for the warmth he brought into their lives. Abel was a man who cherished the bonds of family, always surrounded by his loved ones, sharing stories that echoed with laughter and joy. He had an infectious smile that would light up the room as he reminisced about the good times shared with family and friends. His passion for life was reflected in his love for Tejano music and dancing, activities that brought him immense happiness and joy.

Surrounded by his family during his passing, Abel leaves behind his loving wife of 37 years, Libarda (Lee) Garza, and a close-knit family that includes his children: Sandra L. Garza of Hammond, Abel A. Garza Jr. (Sandra Muniz) of Hollywood, Florida, Fernando Fernandez of East Chicago, and Naomi Garza of Hammond. Abel’s legacy continues through his three cherished grandchildren, Eusevo, Anyssa, and Anieko Guevara, along with four great-grandchildren, Cecelia, Soren, Kailani and Eliana, who will carry his spirit forward. He is also survived by his siblings, Janie Gehrke and Victor Garza of Pueblo, Colorado, his half-sisters Melissa Garza of Corpus and Sandra Garza Guzman of Alice, and numerous nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and cousins, all of whom will forever hold him in their hearts.

Abel's life was intertwined with the spirit of community, exemplified by his active membership in the Hammond Moose Lodge for over 25 years, where he formed friendships that enriched his life and the lives of those around him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Alberto and Maria Garza, and siblings Guadalupe Vela, Roberto Garza, Pedro Garza, Rene Garza, Humberto Garza, Juan "Johnny" Garza, Homero Garza, and Maria "Maggie" Trevino, each of whom played a significant role in molding the man that Abel became.
